The Inlet: Illustrated

Drü Egg—an artist from Switzerland—leaves his mark on his Oru Kayak.

Dominik Rüegg—also known by his artist name Drü Egg—is an illustrator from St.Gallen, Switzerland. Since studying animation in Lucerne, he has been working as a freelancer in the fields of illustration and graphics. He prefers to paint large-scale murals, but no object is safe from Dominik's markers! He was allowed to paint furniture for USM Haller and redesigned entire cars with his art. His style is graphically very reduced—most of the time he works without a sketch and just starts painting. Dominik finds inspiration in his everyday life. He gets around locally by bike, travels all over the globe, and truly immerses himself in the natural world. He works with minimalist elements and clear forms that simply present information. His art is seen as a stage for the viewer's stories.

Dominik has owned his Oru Kayak for over a year. "It's already a design object for me, so it quickly became clear that I would like to paint one, and the white color is already very suitable." Together with the Kanuschule Bodensee in Arbon, he painted an Oru Inlet Kayak in two days. To find the right felt-tip pens, he tested various suppliers in advance before settling on an industrial marker. "I am very happy with how the kayak came out and got a lot of positive feedback. With such 'freestyle work,' there is always some nervousness, as you never know what it will look like in the end. I am a huge fan of Oru Kayak and would love to design something for them one day.”
